What is Liminal?

A philosophy game. Nineteen historical thinkers — from Marcus Aurelius and Nietzsche to Rumi, Hafez, and Simone de Beauvoir — are reconstructed from their writings, each with a chamber of games and conversations. There are encounters where minds meet (debates, a symposium, a tribunal for your own decisions), a daily question, and a study wing that leads to the real public-domain texts. The voices are simulations for reflection, not real people, and nothing they say is professional advice.

Where can I play?

On iPhone, iPad, and Mac from the App Store, or in your browser at liminal.hessamzahedi.com. One account works in both places.

How do free answers and credits work?

Every account includes free live AI answers to start. When they run out, a credit pack — currently 100 answers for $9.99 — keeps the conversation going. No subscription; credits don’t expire. Many of Liminal’s games, and all of the study material, work without using a credit at all.

I bought credits but don’t see them.

Purchases are verified (by Apple, or Stripe on the web) and then credited to your account — usually within seconds. If a purchase doesn’t appear: make sure you’re signed in, reopen the credits screen (it re-checks recent purchases), and check your connection. Restoring a past purchase never charges or credits you twice. Still stuck? Email us with the approximate date of purchase and we’ll sort it out.

Do my kept lines and reflections sync between devices?

Yes — through your own iCloud, not our servers. Sign into iCloud on both devices and your keepsakes, reflections, collections, favourites, and daily streak follow you. On the Kept screen, pull down to refresh. We can’t read any of it.

A voice greeted me like it remembered my last visit. How?

Chambers keep a private note of when you visited, on your device and your iCloud — nothing is sent to us. If you’d rather they didn’t: You tab → Chambers remember you → off. That also erases the record everywhere.

How do the morning reminders work?

Tap the bell on the daily question card and allow notifications. The reminders are scheduled on your device by iOS — we run no push servers. Tap the bell again to turn them off.

Can I turn the chamber sound on or off?

Yes — the speaker icon inside any chamber, or You tab → Chamber ambience. It’s off by default, generated on your device, and respects the silent switch.

I’m having trouble signing in.

The app uses Sign in with Apple (the web also offers Google). If sign-in fails, check your connection and try again. Hide My Email works normally. You can also explore much of Liminal as a guest.

How do I delete my account and data?

Open the You tab in the app and choose Delete account, or email support@hessamzahedi.com and we’ll do it for you. Your iCloud-synced keepsakes are under your control separately — delete them in the app, or remove the app’s data in your device’s iCloud settings. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what is removed.

Are these the real philosophers?

No. The voices are AI reconstructions written in each thinker’s spirit; they do not reproduce any author’s words verbatim and do not represent the real person. (The daily lines on the widget and watch say “Inspired by” for the same reason.)
